THOMPSON RESIDENCE
The Thompsons were ready to retire and move away from the Houston, Texas heat. The couple had already purchased a small 2.5 acre wooded parcel in Deltaville, Virginia, near family and friends, and decided to make that the site for their new home. They came to us with a vision for a unique, custom designed home, that would still feel spacious without excessive
square footage.
We successfully met their program by designing a 1800 sq. ft. contemporary style house that offers ample interior space, is warm, inviting, and flooded with natural light. The interior space includes a Great Room, Dining Area, Kitchen, First Floor Master Bedroom, Master Bath, Second Bedroom, Full Bath, Utility Room, Upstairs Loft, Sitting Area and Half Bath, a Basement and an Two-car Garage. The Thompson's favorite space in their new home is the large great room, which features a double height vaulted ceiling, exposed mahogany stained wood beams, hardwood floors, and an authentic
stone fireplace.
The exterior of the house is flanked with a wrap around deck and screened porch, and features textured vinyl siding, clerestory windows, a shingle roof .
The house was situated toward the front on the wooded site to clear of the rear wetlands, and to limit the numbers of trees removed. The site also has a rear stream, and the slope of the land created the perfect condition for the added basement that will be used for a hobby workshop and storage.
