QUIOCASSIN BAPTIST CHURCH

Quiocassin Baptist Church was founded in 1866 by freed African Americans. Although it is located on Quiocassin Road in Richmond, the Church name comes from a tree carving of the word “Quiocassin” found on the land where the first members worshipped. The Church’s continued growth and service to the community over the years led to the construction, in 2004, of a new 10,000 sq. ft. Multi-Purpose Facility that includes a full basketball court gymnasium, commercial kitchen, new toilets and an alternate Worship space. The expansion enables the Church to better serve the youth in the congregation, and many community activities are now held in the new facility. The architectural exterior was traditional to compliment the existing Sanctuary building.
