HISTORIC KELLY RESIDENCE
After years of abandon, the Historic Kelly House, located in Deltaville, Virginia, has been beautifully renovated and restored by owner, Diane Cox Basheer, President of Diane Cox Basheer Communities. Ms. Basheer is the great-great-great granddaughter of the original owner, William Kelly, who first inhabited the house. The “Planter’s” style two-story home, constructed in the 1830s, has a center hall with four flanking rooms and a fireplace in each room. During the renovation, the house was raised up so a new foundation could be constructed, and the chimneys were restored using some of the original brick. At the rear of the house, a new addition was added that includes a new kitchen, sunroom, utility room and powder room. The existing rear porch that had been originally enclosed to serve as a kitchen had deteriorated and was falling in, and was therefore, removed to allow for the new addition. A small dilapidated outer building, adjacent to the house and thought to have been the original kitchen, was torn down and new landscaping was completed around the property which has greatly enhanced the restoration.
